2008 Code of Conduct and Contract
Congratulations on being crowned a Kanabec County Ambassador! The purpose of our program is to present a positive image in our community and promote community service. While it is important that you remember your responsibilities at all times, this opportunity is intended to offer you a time for fun, festivity and cherished memories.
In acceptance of your title, you must agree to abide by the following terms, obligations and responsibilities:
Appreciation. Ambassadors will show appreciation to their sponsors and gift-givers with at least a thank-you note as well as showing appreciation for the support of the chamber.
Attire. Appropriate attire is required at all times when at an Ambassador Event. Clothing that is risqué, revealing or provocative is strictly prohibited. Formal gowns should be age appropriate. We prefer 1” straps for Jr. Miss dresses but there are some age appropriate spaghetti strap dresses that may be acceptable. If in doubt ask a committee member. Casual dress for the warmer months will include the Ambassador T-shirt, khaki bottoms & white tennis shoes. Casual dress for cooler months will include a long-sleeve t-shirt (to be purchased from the program), black bottoms and black shoes.
Dress code will be given in advance for events and will be mandatory. If you do not follow the dress code you will be asked to change. If you do not change, you will be asked to leave, will not be allowed to participate and will lose an attendance point.
Flip Flops/Mini Skirts/Short shorts – Absolutely none of these! Skirts and shorts must follow the “finger tip” rule – no exceptions. No outfits should ever show your stomach (i.e. crop tops or low rise pants).
Body piercing & tattoos should not be visible. In the event there is already a piercing present, please use a “clear” insert or put a small band-aid over it. Pierced ears are exempt from this.
When dressing for an event keep in mind that you are representing not only the program, but the community and the chamber.
NO Gum chewing while at an event!
Any infraction of the above is grounds for sanctions or immediate dismissal and relinquishment of the Ambassadors title pursuant to Section 10 captioned “Relinquishment of Title.”
Personal belongings are not allowed on the float other than a bottle of water or those items needed for medical purposes.
Attendance. Ambassadors are required to participate in all scheduled events following their crowing. You will get a list of confirmed events – we try to get them out monthly. It is your responsibility to directly contact Lisa or Tonja to verify your attendance at a scheduled event. Once the schedule is set we will NOT be calling to confirm attendance from everyone.
Mandatory Events are all events that are scheduled at least seven days in advance and will count as one point for attendance.
Participation at events is vital to our program. ALL Ambassadors are expected to help set up and take down the float or any other decorating/preparations. No one will leave until all is complete.
Bonus Events are events that “pop up at the last minute” or less than seven days in advance. You will not be “docked” for non-attendance but can earn an additional attendance point for being there.
Movie Theater. Each Ambassador will be required to work one shift at the movie theater concession per quarter (for a total of four times during the year). Our time “slots” are the 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month. Laurie Anderson will be scheduling contact on this. Movie Theater is mandatory – not bonus.
Lates will be counted in your overall points for the year. We allow a 15 minute lee-way for tardiness. Two late attendances will dock one point for overall attendance. If you show up later than half-way through an Event this will count as a no-show.
Leaving early will be handled on an individual basis determined by a committee member and the parent. Advance notice of leaving early is mandatory and you must be picked up by a responsible adult. An Ambassador will NOT leave at any time without notifying a chaperone/committee member - for safety reasons!
Absence. Ambassadors must, within a reasonable time, notify the committee if they are going to be unable to attend a scheduled event.
Travel. We will have a designated meeting place for traveling to events and only a maximum of three vehicles attending. We will be carpooling and assigning chaperones for events on a schedule.
Your scholarship award is based on attendance. The Ambassador will maintain at least 70% participation in events in order to maintain title and eligibility for scholarship/savings bond award.
Any unexcused, unapproved or invalid late appearances are ground for sanctions or immediate dismissal and relinquishment of the Ambassadors title pursuant to Section 10 captioned “Relinquishment of Title.”
Equality. The Kanabec County Ambassador Program regards all the Ambassadors as EQUAL. There is no “one” winner – all hold equal title. Each girl is just as important as the other and we want to ensure this attitude is conveyed to the public.
Friends and Boyfriends. Ambassadors’ friends and/or boyfriends are not allowed on Ambassador appearances without prior approval from a director.
No physical contact of any type with boyfriends at events.
Any infraction of the above is grounds for sanctions or immediate dismissal and relinquishment of the Ambassadors title pursuant to Section 10 captioned “Relinquishment of Title.”
Attitude and behavior. Being a Kanabec County Ambassador is an honor and a privilege! Part of what you should get out of the program is personal growth and an appreciation of community service. You will be expected to have an overall positive attitude. Not all the events are fun - some are boring and include working. This is part of your duties when you were crowned an Ambassador. If you are having fun, other people will feel this. Remember your attitude is contagious. All girls must project the most positive image that they can.
Keep in mind that it IS hot in the summer and it is COLD in the winter – dress appropriately to avoid complaining.
Absolutely NO whining or complaining or “are we done yet?” “Can’t we go home” “this is boring” etc.
Insensitivity to other girls in the court will not be tolerated. No one is better than the other.
Talking on cell phones is not permitted while at an event. If you have a cell phone it must be turned off and stored in your crown box or purse.
Abusive or profane language shall not be tolerated. Ambassadors are required to act with discretion at all times.
If inappropriate behavior is displayed the Ambassador may be asked to leave and will lose an attendance point.
Any infraction of the above is grounds for sanctions or immediate dismissal and relinquishment of the Ambassadors title pursuant to Section 10 captioned “Relinquishment of Title.”
Behavior outside Kanabec County Ambassador Program events also reflects on the program and may be grounds for sanctions or immediate dismissal and relinquishment of the Ambassadors title pursuant to Section 10 captioned “Relinquishment of Title.”
Alcohol and Tobacco. Consumption of alcoholic beverages shall not be permitted by any Ambassador. Tobacco smoking shall not be permitted by any Ambassador. Any violation of either of these by an Ambassador is grounds for immediate dismissal from the program.
Illegal Chemicals, drugs, substances. An Ambassadors use of any and all illegal chemicals, drugs or substances are strictly prohibited. Violation of this provision is grounds for immediate relinquishment of title and immediate dismissal from the program.
Illegal behavior. Any and all involvement in illegal behavior, including, but not limited to, driving under the influence of illegal chemicals, illegal drugs, illegal substances and alcohol is strictly prohibited. Violation of this provision is grounds for immediate relinquishment of title and immediate dismissal from the program.
Relinquishment of Title. Ambassadors will be allowed two warnings regarding any behavior (or other rules).
1st and 2nd “warning” - This will involve the chaperone/committee member and the Ambassador discussing the infraction. If there is a disagreement the full committee will make the final determination.
The third warning will involve a meeting with the Ambassador and her parent/guardian. A decision will be made at that time as to the status of the Ambassadors Title.
If any member of the Kanabec County Ambassador Program disobeys any of the terms, obligations and responsibilities set forth in this Code of Conduct and Contract, the Kanabec County Ambassador Program Committee reserves the right, at their discretion, to immediately dismiss the member, immediately remove her title or issue a lesser sanction to the Ambassador to include, but not limited to, forfeiture of the Ambassador’s educational scholarship/savings bond, private admonishment form the Kanabec County Ambassador Program Committee, public admonishment and/or a written warning from the Kanabec County Ambassador Committee. Any member that is dismissed as an Ambassador shall immediately return all Committee property to the Kanabec County Ambassador Committee and the educational scholarship/savings bond shall be forfeited.
I have read, fully understand and consent to the terms, obligations and responsibilities stated in this Code of Conduct and agree to abide by them. I understand that any violation of the terms, obligations and responsibilities stated in this Code of Conduct may result in my immediate dismissal as an Ambassador, relinquishment of title and/or forfeiter of my scholarship or savings bond, to be determined at the sole discretion of the Ambassador Committee. By signing this contract I understand that I will be an Ambassador for Kanabec County and will follow all instructions provided by the Kanabec County Ambassador Committee.
